Abstract

This study focuses on the effects of different religious groups on individuals’ personalities in the process of religious socialisation. The study focuses on the effects of religious groups on personality and behaviour in the process of religious socialisation, which corresponds to an individual and socio-cultural sphere, and how socialisation within a religious group affects a person’s emotions, thoughts and behaviour. First, the concept of religious socialisation was discussed; the relationship between personality, self, identity and socialisation, and the different forms of religious groups were explained. Interviews were conducted with 44 people, including 13 men and 31 women representing different religious groups. The data were coded using the Maxqda analysis programme, and three themes emerged: experiences related to personality, the reflections of religious groups on personality, and behavioural patterns in religious groups. As a result, findings have emerged that different religious groups develop harmony and self-discipline personality traits in individuals, cause spiritual maturation, anger management, inner peace and moral change, and function as one of the primary agents of socialisation, like the family.
